BEETHOVEN String Quartet No. 10 in E-Flat Major, Op. 74, “Harp”
BRAHMS String Sextet No. 1 in B flat Major, Op.18
The music of Beethoven and Brahms fills the glorious sanctuary of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church for our springtime Ovation Concert showcasing chamber music for strings. We welcome violinist Arnaud Sussmann and cellist Alan Rafferty back to Charleston as we explore two towering masterpieces. Beethoven’s string quartet opens the program with music of striking invention and emotional clarity, revealing the composer’s bold reimagining of the quartet as a vehicle for dramatic conversation. The concert concludes with Brahms’s radiant String Sextet in B-flat Major, Op. 18.
