🎶💎We love sharing hidden gems with our audiences! At our recent Dock Street Theatre performance, violinists Anthea Kreston and Frances Hsieh, violist Ben Weiss, cellist Timothy O’Malley, and pianist Phillip Bush, brought to life František Drdla’s “Hey, Hay! Three Hungarian Dances, Op.30 No.4 for Piano Quintet.”

Dripping with Viennese charm, this work fits three different dances into one concise, virtuosic, energetic movement. Origiinally for violin and piano, Drdla’s publisher encouraged the composer to make an arrangement for Piano Quintet. As Edition Silvertrust (who publishes this and other hidden gems) writes “The version for Piano Quintet was perhaps the most popular. During the first years of the 20th century, one could hardly escape hearing it in the cafes and restaurants of Vienna, Budapest, Prague, Berlin, London and New York.”

What an absolutely glorious weekend of chamber mus

What an absolutely glorious weekend of chamber music! From our first Bishop Gadsden Chapel Concert of the season to the intimate pair of afternoon performances of the Salon Series at South Carolina Society Hall, the audiences were completely entranced by the expert craftsmanship, deep musicianship, and sheer virtuosity on display.

The immediate standing ovations were a testament to the excitement and appreciation for the music our performers shared with the audience.

Bravo to our performing musicians, guest violinist Diana Cohen and guest pianist Roman Rabinovich, CMC violist Ben Weiss, and CMC cellist Timothy O’Malley. We are so grateful to have such incredible musicians who bring such joy and passion to the creation of chamber music performances.

And a special thank you to those behind the scenes who made it all possible, including South Carolina Society Hall for continuing to partner with us for a beautiful series of chamber music in their historic building, Fox Music for the expert moving of piano, Kevin Snodgrass of Grand Tone LLC for the last minute emergency piano tuning at Bishop Gadsden, the Chaplain and Staff of Bishop Gadsden for welcoming us so graciously into their community, West Ashely Theatre Center for allowing us to spend a day rehearsing in the Pearl Theater, and all the volunteers of CMC who created such a perfect, welcoming environment for the guests attending the Salon Series.

While these were our final performances of 2024, we can’t wait to return in January 2025 for another year of great chamber music!

We are excited to welcome celebrated violinist Dia

We are excited to welcome celebrated violinist Diana Cohen back to Charleston this week for the first concert of our Salon Series. Diana was concertmaster of the Charleston Symphony before moving to the same position with the Calgary Philharmonic. In addition to her orchestra career, she creates and performs in exceptional chamber music concerts as the Executive and Co-Artistic Director of ChamberFest Cleveland.

Diana will be joined by her husband, internationally acclaimed pianist Roman Rabinovich, who has performed throughout Europe and the USA in venues such as Leipzig’s Gewandhaus, London’s Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall, Cité de la Musique in Paris and Washington DC’s Kennedy Center.

Our very own CMC violist Ben Weiss and cellist Timothy O’Malley will join Diana and Roman for music of Mozart and Mendelssohn on Sunday, December 8 at the historic South Carolina Society Hall. Very limited tickets remain for this concert, and we can’t wait to share this program to a full house in the beautiful ballroom of this historic hall.

What an absolutely amazing weekend of music! The immediate standing ovation at the conclusion of the concert was a testament to the skilled musicianship, virtuosity, and passion that graced the stage of Sottile Theatre.

Bravo to our musicians, violinists Daniel Ching and Frances Hsieh, violist Ben Weiss and Jenny Weiss, and cellist Alan Rafferty and Tim O’Malley. Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht was mesmerizing and Brahms’ Sextet No. 2 was absolutely glorious.
