Guitarist Jason Vieaux Joins CMC For Opening Ovation Concert

The season opens with South American flair as acclaimed guitarist Jason Vieaux and violinist Francisco Fullana join musicians of CMC for Luigi Boccherini’s “Fandango” Guitar Quintet and Astor Piazzolla’s “L’Histoire du Tango.”

Save the date and plan to join us at Hutchinson Square in Summerville on Friday, September 27th. The CMC Quartet will be performing music of Teresa Carreño, Jose Elizondo, and Astor Piazzolla, DJ Luigi of Latin Grooves will be providing some high-energy music for our dancers, there will be food trucks and a Cultural Esplanade …so much to look forward to!

🎶🎻Today our CMC TWO Education Fellowship Qua

🎶🎻Today our CMC TWO Education Fellowship Quartet visited students and young audiences at Sanders Clyde Elementary School and the John L. Dart Library in downtown Charleston. Thank you to the all of our Education Investors for supporting such important programming, and especially the South Carolina Arts Commission which has provided foundational support for our entire Youth Chamber Music Initiative.

We were especially excited to work one on one with the 4th grade string students of Mr. Dominik Fields at Sanders Clyde Elementary School. We look forward to returning soon to continue our work with them and are excited to see what progress they will make over the coming weeks!

Our string quartet has prepared a beautiful program of music by Florence Price, William Grant Still, and Antonín Dvořák for our final set of performances. On Sunday we brought our music to the Presbyterian Church on Edisto – one of our favorite spaces to perform in.

We are grateful for the support of the @edistoartguild for this series, and we look forward to returning in October!

We are having a wonderful time at Haut Gap Middle School this month, as our musicians take part in a mini-residency with their talented string students. Yesterday we worked in small sectionals and also rehearsed with them in a side-by-side format as they prepared for their big year-end concert.

We are having so much fun working with the students at Mt. Zion Elementary School for their production of “Of Mice and Mozart!” The folks at Charleston Stage are doing an amazing job inspiring the students as they recite their lines and perform their songs.

It is so exciting to see such joy in these students as they sing their hearts out…and tell a story about Mozart!

🎶🎻On Sunday we welcome a handful of new gues

🎶🎻On Sunday we welcome a handful of new guest musicians to Charleston for our Grand Finale to “Chamber Music with Friends” – violist Matt Lipman (@melodiousmatt1 ) and cellist Raphael Bell.

Among other pieces, they will be performing Dohnanyi’s boldly dramatic Sextet written for the unusual combination of clarinet, horn, violin, viola, cello, and piano.

Praised by the New York Times for his “rich tone and elegant phrasing” and by the Chicago Tribune for a “splendid technique and musical sensitivity,” violist Matthew Lipman. has performed recitals at Carnegie Hall, Aspen Music Festival, and the Zürich Tonhalle. Lipman is the recipient of a 2015 Avery Fisher Career Grant, a Kovner Fellowship, and the Jack Kent Cooke Award, and is also a major prize winner in the Primrose, Tertis, Washington, Johansen, and Stulberg International Viola Competitions. An alum of the Bowers Program, he performs regularly on tour and at Alice Tully Hall with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, where he occupies the Wallace Chair.

Raphael Bell enjoys a varied career as a principal cellist, chamber musician, teacher, and festival director. He is currently Principal Cello of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra in Belgium, founder and co-director of the Charlottesville Chamber Music Festival in Virginia, and co-Artistic Director of La Loingtaine in Montigny-sur-Loing, France.
As a chamber musician he has performed at Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Salle Gaveau, Berlin Philharmonie, Koln Philharmonie, Luzerner Theater, Tokyo Suntory Hall, and Kyoto Concert Hall. He was part of the IMS Prussia Cove tour that won the Chamber Music Award from the Royal Philharmonic Society in London.

We are excited to introduce K’nique Eichelberger, actor with Charleston Stage, to our Classical Kids Concert audiences! He will be joining the winds of Chamber Music Charleston as narrator for “Peter and the Wolf” on March 9 at Sottille Theatre.

We can’t wait to share the magical sounds of the woodwind quintet with children of all ages at Sottile Theatre!
