House Concert #2 in the books! We had a wonderful time bringing music of Gershwin, Pierne , Reade, and Chopin to life in one of the beautiful homes of Kiawah Island.

What an absolutely amazing weekend of music! The immediate standing ovation at the conclusion of the concert was a testament to the skilled musicianship, virtuosity, and passion that graced the stage of Sottile Theatre.

Bravo to our musicians, violinists Daniel Ching and Frances Hsieh, violist Ben Weiss and Jenny Weiss, and cellist Alan Rafferty and Tim O’Malley. Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht was mesmerizing and Brahms’ Sextet No. 2 was absolutely glorious.

We are thrilled to welcome violinist Daniel Ching

We are thrilled to welcome violinist Daniel Ching and cellist Alan Rafferty back to Charleston to participate in masterclasses with our CMC TWO musicians and perform on our November 3rd Ovation Concert.

Alan and Daniel were last here in September 2024, when they joined the strings of CMC in a performance of Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence at the Dock Street Theatre. Since then, Daniel has been busy touring and performing with the Miro Quartet while also teaching at the Butler School of Music in Austin, TX and Alan has been busy performing with the Cincinnati Symphony, teaching at the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music while also running the successfull summertime Ascent Music Festival.

This Friday, after a day full of rehearsals, Alan and Daniel will work with students of CMC for a pair of masterclasses. Join us for this free event from 6:30-8:15pm at the West Ashley Theatre Center, to experience how our talented students work with these exceptional professional musicians and teachers.

Then on Sunday Alan and Daniel, along with CMC violinst Frances Hsieh, violist Ben and Jenny Weiss, and Tim O’Malley, perform a pair of string sextets at Sottile Theatre.

Schoenberg’s groundbreaking “Verklärte Nacht” and Brahms expansively lyrical Sextet in G Major come to life under the expert craftsmanship of violinist Daniel Ching (Miró Quartet), cellist Alan Rafferty (Cincinnati Symphony) and musicians of Chamber Music Charleston.

This morning musicians of Chamber Music Charleston

This morning musicians of Chamber Music Charleston shared a special Hispanic Heritage Month-inspired program with students at Angel Oak and Frierson Elementary Schools. The multi-faceted program shared the culture of Latin America in a variety of ways, from singing along in Spanish to a traditional Mexican folk song and learning about music from Cuba and Venezuela, to listening to a beautiful story about a young girl in Cuba who dreamed of playing drums.

Thank you to @artsetckiawah for supporting this program, and all of the educational work we do on John’s Island .

Tomorrow we visit Mt. Zion Elementary School, and we can’t wait!

What a great concert! Bravo to our guitarist Jason Vieaux, violinist Francisco Fullana and Jenny Weiss, violist Ben Weiss and cellist Tim O’Malley for an incredible performance for a huge, enthusiastic audience.

The immediate standing ovation and thunderous applause as the final notes of Boccherini filled the airs is a testament to the artistry, passion, and virtuosity exhibited from the stage.
