Sharing the Magic of Live Music with Young Audiences

Chamber Music Charleston (CMC) is pleased to announce the launch of the Classical Kids Concert Series at Sottile Theatre. Beginning in September 2022, CMC will present three performances of classical music combined with storytelling and stunning visual imagery tailored specifically for young audiences (recommended for ages 10 and under). Each 45-minute program includes an educational introduction to the musicians and their instruments, songs with audience participation, and beloved stories set to music.


Individual price:
Adult: $12 (plus $3 fee)
Child 4-18: $7 (plus $3 fee)
0-3: Free (ticket required)

2022-2023 SEASON


The 2022-23 Classical Kids Concert Series opens with the 1936 classic by Munro Leaf and Robert Lawson, “The Story of Ferdinand,” set to music for wind quintet.  Spanish clarinetist, Daniel Broncano from  the Musica en Segura Festival in Spain join musicians of CMC for this special event.

Celebrate the most magical holiday season with a special Christmas Classical Kids Concert! Favorite holiday songs fill the air and well-loved stories come to life with classical music. Musicians of Chamber Music Charleston and CMC TWO perform a variety of holiday music as actors retell classic Christmas tales such as “Snowman at Christmas”  and “The Night Before Christmas.”

The Classical Kids Series concludes with the original musical adaptation of the acclaimed children’s book “Harlem’s Little Blackbird: The Story of Florence Mills” by Renée Watson with illustrations by Christian Robinson. The incredible story has been set to music of  H.T. Burleigh and is narrated and sung by operatic coloratura Soprano Diana Thompson-Brewer with musicians of CMC.
