FLUTE MASTERCLASS  WITH DEMARRE MCGILL – APPLICATION

Demarre McGill has gained international recognition as one of the premier flutists of his generation, celebrated for his lyrical expressiveness and technical prowess. Winner of the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant and the Sphinx Medal of Excellence, McGill has appeared as a soloist with renowned orchestras including the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the San Francisco, Seattle, Pittsburgh, Dallas, Grant Park, San Diego, Chicago, and Baltimore Symphony Orchestras. His captivating performances have earned him critical acclaim and a distinguished place in the world of classical music.

Application guidelines:

  • Applicants must submit a complete video recording of the entire movement(s) they intend to play in the masterclass on or before the deadline above. Accompaniment is not required.
  • Partial/incomplete movements are not eligible. 
  • Students may apply with multiple short movements from the same piece played back-to-back.
  • Concerti, solo pieces, and sonatas for your instrument are eligible but the masterclass will not have piano accompaniment. Preference will be given to unaccompanied works of the flute repertoire (works written for solo, unaccompanied flute) such as Debussy’s Syrinx, Bach Partitas, Telemann Fantasies, etc.

Eligibility guidelines:

  • Student must be currently enrolled in High School or College and studying with a private teacher.
  • Student must be able to provide their own transportation to the masterclass site (located in Downtown Charleston)

Thanks to a grant from the South Carolina Arts Commission (which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts), there is no fee to apply or participate.
