September is a month brimming with music as the local arts scene explodes.  From sold-out House Concerts to the Fiesta on the Square in Summerville, Chamber Music Charleston has crafted numerous chamber music experiences to satisfy everyone’s tastes.  But the most eagerly anticipated concerts are the ones with an international flare, taking place at in the majestic spaces of the Dock Street and Sottile Theatres.

TANGO meets CLASSICAL

Sunday, September 17th at 3pm at Sottile Theatre

Acclaimed composer and Bandoneon player JP Jofre and violinist Francisco Fullana join musicians of CMC for a program of music celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.   Classical music merges with the sultry sounds of the tango as musicians perform works by Jofre, including “Como el Agua,” and “Tango Movements,”  alongside Richard Strauss’ blazingly energetic Piano quartet.

ITALIAN SERENADE

Sunday, September 24th at 3pm at the Dock Street Theatre

violinist Daniel Ching of the Miró Quartet and cellist Alan Rafferty of the Cincinnati Symphony join CMC violinist Frances Hsieh, violists Ben and Jenny Weiss, and cellist Timothy O’Malley for a program of music with a distinctive nod to Italy.  The program opens with Hugo Wolf’s “Italian Serenade” and concludes with Tchiakovsky’s “Souvenir de Florence.”
