DOWNTOWN VENUES FOR THE 2025-2026 SEASON

The DOCK STREET THEATRE was the first building in America designed exclusively for theatrical performances. Today it is the home of Charleston Stage, and has also become one of Charleston’s most iconic venue for Chamber Music. Guests can choose from Orchestra and Balcony Seating. All seating is assigned. This venue is handicap accessible.

SAINT MATTHEW’S LUTHERAN CHURCH was founded in 1840 by a group of Germans who wished to worship in their native language. The church’s original building was located at Hasell and Anson Streets in Charleston but moved to the current location at 405 King Street in 1872. The space provides beautiful acoustics for classical music. Only Section A seating is assigned. Section B/Senior is open seating. Please inquire about handicap accessibility.

SOUTH CAROLINA SOCIETY HALL was built in 1804 as a school for female orphans and as a meeting place for the South Carolina Society. In 1826 the first floor became a secondary school with both a Male Academy and Female Academy, both of which closed in 1841. This historic hall has hosted CMC’s Salon Series for the past 4 years and is the ideal setting for classical chamber music performances. Guests have the option of using the grand staircase or elevator to reach the top floor ballroom. All seating is assigned.

THE PEARL THEATRE at the West Ashley Theatre Center, a 10,000 square foot facility located in West Ashley. The Theatre Center is located at Ashley Landing and includes two dance and rehearsal studio spaces and a 130-seat performance space known as “The Pearl” or the Pearlstine Theatre. Centrally located, West Ashley Theatre Center is no more than 15 minutes from Mt. Pleasant, downtown, James Island, the North Area and is less than a mile off of I-26 and I- 526.  This venue has open, unassigned seating.

THE CONFEDERATE HOME AND COLLEGE, 62 broad street. Before the Civil War, 62 Broad Street operated as the Carolina Hotel and also housed the Federal Court. In 1867, Mary Amarinthia and Isabella Yates Snowden established a home for Confederate widows and orphans. Later they started a college on the premises. The spirit and compassion of the Snowden sisters lives on today as the Confederate Home and College is a source of 5 college scholarships and moderately priced housing for qualified residents.

THE MCBEE HOUSE at the Ashley Hall School is named after the founder of the school, Mary Vardrine McBee. Mary envisioned a place of learning that would produce educated women who are independent, ethically responsible, and prepared to meet the challenges of society with confidence. The school opened in 1909. Chamber Music Charleston has brought music to the second floor recital hall every few years since its founding. 172 Rutledge Avenue.

THE PARSONAGE AT ST. JOHANNES LUTHERAN CHURCH is a grand Charleston home built in the 1840s, only years after the Great Fire of 1838 destroyed most of the homes in Charleston’s Ansonborough neighborhood. In 1919 the home was sold as a parsonage to St. Johannes Lutheran Church and in 2014 was extensively renovated. The 2 1/2 story home has a spacious double parlor on the first floor, ideal for chamber music. 50 Hassell Street.

20 SOUTH BATTERY. Situated directly across from White Point Gardens in the Historic District of Charleston, South Carolina, 20 South Battery dates back to the 1800s and is truly a treasure in the community. In 2018 Dr. Jack Schaeffer assumed ownership, and the property has undergone extensive preservation efforts in a labor of love with the intent of revitalizing this Charleston gem to all its former grandeur. On January 15th, 2021, 20 South Battery was granted with the 67th Carolopolis Award by the Preservation Society
